Ubuntu :: Compiz + Metacity button position

Postby derbouka » Wed Jan 10, 2007 2:50 pm

Hi!

I've changed my Metacity button position to "close, maximize, minimize:menu", but when I activate Compiz(or GL Desktop) it just ignore my options ..

Is there any solution for this?

Best regards!
PS: by the way, how do I install the 3D Plugin and how can I remove it(just in case it's to slow :))

Hi derbouka!

Are you using compiz 0.3.4? The metacity-theme support has been improved with 0.3.6, but I recommend waiting for the official 0.4.0 release ... 0.3.6 is a development-version and quite buggy.

You can add plugins by copying their files (like lib3d.so) into /usr/lib/compiz (or /usr/local/lib/compiz if you installed from source and didn't change the --prefix).

If you want to enable/disable plugins, open gconf-editor and add/remove the plugin's name to/from /apps/compiz/general/allscreens/options/active_plugins ...

Hi!

Thanks for quick reply :)
Yes, I'm using using compiz 0.3.6, but it just ignores my metacity settings .. :\

I've installed compiz, following this guide:
http://www.go-compiz.org/index.php?title=Ubuntu_Installation_Guide

Thanks about the plugin :)

By the way, when is it planed to be released the version 0.4.0??

Best regards!

There is no real "official" release date or deadline, but (rumours say) maybe it gets released around compiz' 1st birthday ... which is (according to mikedee) on 7th of February.

I wouldn't believe those rumors myself....

I think it will be released when it is ready like all good software :)

The problem at the moment is that the decorators seem to be unstable, generally 0.3.6 was not well loved.

I understand David wants to keep regular releases up but a 0.4.0 will not be released until things are stable.

to answer the button order question: there's a patch that works on compiz 0.3.4, but doesn't work on 0.3.6 (results in no buttons or text on the window border)... i've played with 0.3.6's gtk-window-decorator a little, and it seems that if you change the button_layout to be anything other that the compiz default, the blank title bar bug happens, but I haven't been able to figure out why that is yet.

the patch can be found at : http://forum.go-compiz.org/viewtopic.php?p=1306&highlight=#1306
