compiz, Xfce and window decoration

Postby Janusz11 » Thu Apr 05, 2007 7:07 pm

Hello!

I've managed to compile and install compiz from source on my Zenwalk 4.4.1 box. I followed the steps of the documentation and compiz is running and working with Xfce 4.4. However, I only get ugly window decorations. Is there a way that I can use the normal window decoration of Xfce?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

There are 3 different programs to show the window borders.

gtk-window-decorator (standard gtk themes + metacity themes)
kde-window-decorator (kde themes)
emerald (emerald themes)

There is no way to get xfce themes at the moment :(

Thanks for your swift reply, mikedee.

Okay, I'll stay with Xfce's composite effects then. Would be great though if compiz would support Xfce window decorations in the future.

Thanks again.

Here's another vote for XFCE window decoration support. I'd love to be able to keep my XFCE windowbars and such when using compiz's effects :-)

You could try installing Blubuntu from gnome-look.org or the human theme from the same place. They're both in Beryl Themes section, but you are correct, one button is missing from all of the Beryl Themes that weren't created when 7.10 became real...

that button that you push to make the window go to all viewports/workspaces, it doesn't appear in 7.04, so most Beryl Themes you get from gnome-look won't have that button.

I agree though, we should have compiz "fall back" onto the XFCE Windows Management if no theme, or the windows decorator plugin is not enabled.
ReactOS, check it out.

7.10 ? 7.10 what? Are you referring to ubuntu? I'm running debian, and my colour scheme and window decoration colours are custom by hand. :| I suppose I could configure a compiz/emerald window decoration set, but I just would rather xfce/compiz work together peacefully so I don't have to :-) I'll edit this with a picture.
