Installing Compiz on Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn

Postby LegoAddict » Tue Apr 10, 2007 1:25 am

I'm new to Linux (as in, I just installed it yesterday) and I've never ever used the terminal before now. I was looking up how to install Linux stuff, and it's just going over my head. I navigated to the extracted source code folder fine, and then ran ./configure

That gave me a bunch of checks and stuff, then it said that there was some stuff missing. Then I looked on your guide to installing it, and I ran that (which was ./configure --prefix=/usr --enable-librsvg --enable-gtk). I got the same thing.

What am I doing wrong? I'm technically proficient in Windows (which I have dual booted), but since I switched to Linux (because it's faster and I wanted to try something new) I still haven't found my legs yet.

I know it must be something obvious that I'm missing, but I can't find anything :(

Here's the result though from the terminal:

Ahhhh...

I have the desktop effects, but I haven't turned them on because the windows wobble messes up some things.

I'll look through synaptic.

Could you expand upon what you mean by ****?

Just when you think a technology has died... There comes Terminal.

EDIT: Ok, I decided to look in Synaptic for the packages it says I'm missing, and I've made headway, but I can't find gconf-2.0.

Ooohhh, that made it work (better).

I got much farther this time, but something borked when I used the make command. Gave me a bunch of errors:

How do I tell which packages I'm missing? Then I could start to find them myself.
